Polished Plaster Environmental Statement

Armourcoat Limited has a policy of making all products as environmentally friendly as possible from the sourcing of raw ingredients through to manufacture, packaging, application and in-service life of our products.

The main raw ingredient of polished plaster is marble powder. All the coloured marble powders used in our plaster are not quarried specially for the purpose but are retained and graded by-products from the manufacture of marble slabs and tiles. This creates positive environmental impact as by our intervention this by-product is utilised rather than put into landfill.

Polished plaster is compacted to a thin and very hard coating during application, this means that the mineral ingredient that do have to be quarried are not used in great volume as is the case with other plasters - a little goes a long way.

Armourcoat polished plaster is not only environmentally friendly, but building friendly as well. The product is vapour permeable and will therefore allow the structure of the building to breathe, and is therefore ideally suited to old or historic buildings that are not constructed with a modern damp course.

Unlike paints, our powdered polished plasters (P01, P20, P30 and P66) do not give off any VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) during application or in the months afterwards. Our environmental initiative has included introducing water-based versions of our Colourwash and wax that are far more environmentally friendly and much more pleasant to use.

Polished plaster is a much more durable finish than paint or finishes that come on a roll such as paper, fabric or vinyl. This not only makes polished plaster more cost effective in the long term but also makes a contribution environmentally considering the lifecycle impact of producing five lots of vinyl covering for example.

The plaster is supplied in paper sacks that use as much re-cycled paper as the strength constraints allow and is delivered on pallets recycled from the food industry where for hygiene reasons, only single use is permissible.

Polished plaster is compliant with every construction industry fire test that it has been subjected to. It will not support a flame and does not give off toxic fumes on combustion hence even the destruction of the end product does not harm the environment.
